CAPITAL STROKE UPDATE: ASIAN MARKETS 14-August-2014

Asian equities followed their US peers higher on early Thursday after Wall Street overlooked disappointing retail sales data to edge up overnight. Mainland shares were the exception, as Wednesday’s monthly indicators showed signs of weakening in the economy.

Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.60 percent or 90.88 points at 5,304.51. Singapore’s Straits Times was up 0.17 percent or 5.68 points at 3,307.09.

South Korea’s Seoul Composite added 0.22 percent or 4.62 points at 2,066.98.

Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted gained 0.32 percent or 29.35 points at 9,260.66. China’s Shanghai Composite declined 0.30 percent or 6.65 points at 2,216.23. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was flat at 24,880.15.
