US markets finished near
session highs, with the S&P 500 setting a record close and
the Nasdaq ending at its best level since November 2000, following a
better-than-expected pending home sales report and after Italy’s new prime
minister named his cabinet over the weekend, ending two months of political deadlock
in the nation.
The Dow
Jones industrial average rose 106.20 points to 14,818.75. The Standard
& Poor’s 500 Index went up 11.37 points at 1,593.61. The Nasdaq Composite
Index was up 27.76 points at 3,307.02.
